Nurture Nolan believes it takes a village to love, protect, and care for a child and strives to be that village for the children of Nolan County and the surrounding areas, beginning with bags and then beyond.

Our Mission

Nurture Nolan began as a seemingly never-ending discussion of two child welfare attorneys about the lack of resources available to the children in their rural communities. Then, standing in a parking lot on a cold December day in 2020, Aubra Fahy and Samantha Morrow decided to take action. Most children entering the foster care system arrive at their new homes with the clothes on their back and a trash bag in their hand, holding what little they have to call their own. Nurture Nolan was created to provide dignity and hope to every child removed from their home in Nolan County, Texas due to abuse or neglect by providing them a standard-size duffle bag in which to transport their belongings. Each bag is filled with essential toiletry and age-appropriate comfort items to help ease their transition into their new homes. Nurture Nolan is also proud to partner with other organizations and individuals dedicated to the love, care, and protection of children in pursuit of their vision to Be the Village.

"In The Bag"

The work of Nurture Nolan is currently achieved completely by volunteers in a donated space, so all monetary donations received go towards our Mission of helping children in need and providing them with the dignity and hope they deserve. For every $30 donation received, Nurture Nolan is able to provide a fully packed, age-specific bag to a child in need.

Through a strong working relationship with local representatives of Child Protective Services, these bags will be given to every Nolan County child at the time they are removed from their homes; packed bags will be kept at the Sweetwater CPS office for easy access in the event of emergencies. Additionally, packed bags will be provided to school counselors and hospital social workers for distribution to children, as needed.

The contents of the bags vary, depending on the age of the child receiving the bag, but all include shampoo/conditioner, body wash or soap, lotion, toothbrush and toothpaste, hairbrush, and a blanket. Bags provided for babies include diapers and bottles while bags for teenagers include deodorant and feminine hygiene products.
